Ask, Seek and Knock... For What?
When we ask, seek and knock on the Lords door through prayer – what exactly does He promise to give us? Anything we ask for? Or is there something specific that this section in Luke 11 is talking about?
We approach prayer so haphazardly, so flippantly, so non-chalantly, that we either ask without really expecting to be answered, or ask for the wrong things with the wrong motives (James 4:3). But this is God, our provider, our sustainer who we are talking about! We can go to God expecting Him to answer our prayers! But... with what?
If we, being evil, give our children comfort when they ask (or cry), then when we ask our heavenly Father for comfort, or guidance, or wisdom, when we ask for help, He will not surely send us a serpent instead. He most definitely will give us this – but not in the way we might have thought.
When we ask of the Father, when we seek the Father, when we Knock on His door, He promises us more than comfort, He promises us the Comforter. He promises us more than guidance, He sends the Spirit who directs our path. He promises more than wisdom, He sends the Spirit who leads us into all wisdom and understanding. God gives us more than we even ask for when we pray to Him – He gives us Himself through the Holy Spirit. And when we are too weak to utter a prayer, He intercedes on our behalf with groans that cannot be uttered. How much more should we be praying for an outpouring of the Spirit in our lives! He Himself is the answer to our prayers and the good gift that the Lord desires to give us more of.
